Oakland County Genealogical Society Message - Help indexing for the 1890 Census Substitute Project

We have great news, Independence Township has allowed the Society to have three years of their tax assesment records, 1884, 1889, and 1893, imaged to include in our 1890 census substitute project. The imaging is complete and we are ready to index the names. Funds for the digitizztion  from the Ruth Kennedy Memorial Fund were used for the digitization. and were authorized by the OCGS Board of Directors.

We need to make an index, not transcribe the entire page, so the work should go quickly.

When the index is complete it will be uploaded to our website, and the index and images will be uploaded to Oakland County Historic Resources. Researchers will be able to view and download the images which contain their ancestor's name.

There are only 24 packets of 10 pages each. Each page has 2-8 names, so this should be quickly. The images and form will be send by e-mail to volunteers. You need to be able to use a spreadsheet to enter the names.

If you can volunteer to do a packet or two please reply to this e-mail, and specify what spreadsheet program you will use. Packets will be distributed early next week.
