On Tuesday, March 4, 2014 the Oakland County Genealogical Society is pleased to present a program titled “Irish Oral Tradition: Seeking, Analyzing, and Proving!” by Richard M. Doherty of Troy. Dick, who is a professional genealogist, lecturer and author, is a past-president of OCGS and the current president of the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research. He will describe our challenge as genealogists to prove or disprove the Oral Tradition we have heard. Dick explores the value of oral tradition, using a case-study format, by focusing on likely sources of oral tradition, evaluation and validation techniques, and actual images of a variety of Irish records he has used as proof. Please join us for this interesting and informative presentation.
