On Tuesday, November 5, 2013 the Oakland County Genealogical Society is pleased to present a program titled “Genealogy Research in Local Catholic Sacramental Records” by Ms. Heidi Christein, the archivist at the Archdiocese of Detroit. In her talk, Ms. Christein addresses the different types of sacramental records and what information each kind of record contains for genealogy research. The talk will also include information on how to begin a search for local sacramental records; where to find records from closed parishes and those no longer within the Archdiocese of Detroit; how to locate records of priests and nuns; and how to locate records of sacraments conferred in the U.S. military. The Society meets at Kilgour Scottish Centre of the St. Andrews Society, 2360 Rochester Court, Troy MI 48083. The Kilgour Centre is located off Rochester Road, near the intersection of Rochester Road and Stephenson Hwy, just south of I-75 exit 67 (Rochester Road). It may be accessed from the first driveway west of the Rochester Road-Stephenson Hwy intersection. The meeting will start at 7:00 PM and the public is invited. There is no charge. There is ample lighted parking and a flat entrance.
Copies of the history book, "The Catholic Church in Detroit", by George Pare will be available from the Society for $2.50.
